Every family has a story.

Ours begins with an old 48-star American flag, the official flag of the United States from 1912 to 1959. It proudly represented our nation through two World Wars, the Great Depression, and the beginning of a new era in American history.
Family tradition tells us this flag was given to my grandfather, Clarence Henry Demers, when he was a young boy. As he grew older and became a barber in Waterbury, Connecticut, the flag hung proudly in a Waterbury barber shop, quietly watching over decades of conversations, friendships, laughter, and everyday American life.
Later, when I was a small child, the flag was moved into my grandparents' home, in the Bunker Hill section of Waterbury.. Although I was too young to appreciate its history, I was already becoming part of its story.
Eventually, my father, Clarence Henry Demers Jr., entrusted the flag to me. For nearly 50 years, I have had the privilege of preserving it, knowing it represents far more than cotton, thread, and gold fringe.
It represents a part of our family.
My father proudly served aboard the USS Forrestal (CVA-59) in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. His brothers, my uncles Eugene Demers and Wade Demers, both proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Three brothers answered our country's call at the same time.
As I look at this flag today, I can't help but imagine my grandmother standing before it, praying each day for the safe return of her three sons. Like so many American mothers during that era, she lived with hope, faith, and quiet strength while her boys were serving far from home.
As America celebrates 250 years of independence, this flag reminds me that history doesn't only belong in museums. Sometimes it hangs quietly on the wall of a barber shop, then in a family home, passing from one generation to the next.
Today, I am honored to be its caretaker.
One day, this flag will be passed on again, along with the stories of the generations who came before us. My hope is that those who inherit it will continue to preserve and protect it, remembering not only where it has been, but the people whose lives it has quietly witnessed.
Some family treasures aren't measured by their value—they're measured by the stories they carry.
This flag has now been in our family's care for more than a century. May it always remind future generations that freedom is preserved not only by those who serve, but also by those who remember.

Our Family’s Proud Military Heritage

Did you know our family has proudly served in every branch of the United States military?
Both sides of our family share a remarkable history of service — beginning with the American Revolutionary War and continuing through every major American conflict, including Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Over the generations, our family members have earned six Purple Hearts, Bronze Stars, a Silver Star, and many other honors for bravery and sacrifice. One family member, an airman during World War II, was taken prisoner of war and survived the Nazi death march — a powerful reminder of courage and endurance.

Our family’s story goes back even further. Before America was a nation, we fought in the French and Indian War (1760s) for England. Just a decade later, we stood with George Washington in 1775, fighting for the birth of the United States of America.

We carry that same spirit of dedication, honor, and hard work into everything we do — from serving our country to serving our community the freshest seafood possible.

Tony & Sons’ Seafood Celebrates 20 Years of Freshness, Family, and Community

Oakville, CT — December 2025 — Tony & Sons’ Seafood, a family-founded and locally cherished seafood market known for its premium quality, deep roots, and exceptional customer service, proudly celebrates 20 years under the ownership of Scott and Sharon Demers.

The business itself was originally founded in 1982, building a strong reputation throughout Litchfield County. In 2005, Scott and Sharon purchased Tony & Sons’ Seafood and ushered in a new era of growth, building and parking expansion, modernization, and renewed community connection—elevating the business into one of Connecticut’s most trusted destinations for fresh seafood, live lobsters, house-made specialties, and New England–sourced products.

Upon taking ownership in 2005, Scott and Sharon expanded Tony & Sons’ Seafood with their signature hands-on approach—hand-selecting seafood daily, sourcing from reliable New England waters, and preparing customer favorites with the same care and tradition the family has upheld for four decades. Under their leadership, the business has grown significantly, adding a thriving wholesale division, a bustling retail seafood market, and a popular seafood takeout restaurant, while maintaining the authenticity and heritage that customers cherish.

“Reaching 20 years of ownership is something we owe entirely to our loyal customers and our dedicated staff,” said co-owner Scott Demers. “Our family has always believed that when you do things with pride, people notice. We’re grateful for every customer who has supported us, and we look forward to serving the community for many more years ahead.”

Customers continue to rely on Tony & Sons’ Seafood for signature offerings such as jumbo stuffed shrimp, hand-picked Naked Lobster Meat, Tony’s Famous Shrimp Cocktail, all-natural scallops, New England shellfish, and a wide variety of seasonal specialties that have become traditions throughout Connecticut.

The company’s long-standing success is also defined by its strong community presence. Since 1982, and especially under the stewardship of Scott and Sharon, Tony & Sons’ Seafood has supported local organizations, schools, holiday drives, and charitable events, solidifying its reputation as a business deeply woven into the fabric of the community.

“Twenty years of ownership is an honor,” said co-owner Sharon Demers. “We want our customers to know just how much we appreciate them. This celebration is truly for them.”

As Tony & Sons’ Seafood enters its next chapter, the Demers family remains committed to their mission: delivering the freshest, highest-quality seafood with honesty, hospitality, and unmatched care—just as the business has done since 1982.
